Our Children’s Martial Arts program combines traditional martial arts training with high level character development and state of the art teaching methods. Not only do our children learn self-defense, they also develop very positive feelings about themselves and others.
There are many concerns with how our children are growing up in today’s world. The pressures on our youth today are very different from when we were growing up. Children don’t only have to worry about getting good grades and behaving, they have the constant battle of avoiding drugs, gangs, violence, bullying and peer pressure.
At Nichols’ Defense Academy, we realize that in order to give a child a head start in life, they must possess certain skills to cope with today’s challenges. Although the need for knowing self defense is both mentally and physically important, we cannot ignore the Life Skills and Mental Benefits that we much teach our children.

As part of our martial arts curriculum, we teach the martial arts of Judo and Tae Kwon Do. Judo does not involve such tactics as kicking or striking an opponent. Instead, it is based on four groups of interrelated techniques, which are throwing techniques, hold-downs, chokes and arm-locks. Although originally intended for men and boys, the sport has included girls and women since the early 1900’s. Judo was introduced and accepted as an Olympic sport in 1964, and has followers throughout the world.
Tae Kwon Do has an interesting history which spans several thousands of years. Tae Kwon Do has been practiced as a sport and as a martial art since its inception. The study of Tae Kwon Do not only improves one’s physical fitness and health, but also employs as its main goal, inner peace and serenity. Tae Kwon Do means “the art of kicking and punching”, or “the art of unarmed combat”. What truly distinguishes Tae Kwon Do from other martial arts are its varied and uniquely powerful kicking techniques. Tae Kwon Do is more than a system of physical power, it is an art aimed toward the moral development of its students.
Students also have the ability to learning ancient Asian sword techniques from both Japan (Kendo) and Korea (Gum-Do).
